when his mom said to him: " just maybe, there was light at the end of this dark tunnel. " p#.7 Why did they stand out to you? it stands out to me because it makes me think of all the depressed, sadness and the war between his parents. What did they make you think? it make me think of the sad life he was having at a young age. What connections did you make? the connection I make from this quote that when she said light at the end of his dark tunnel, it makes me think of the darkness they had in their life, and by tunnel she meant their life.
I liked this quote also. I thought it was relatable to everyone's lives. It was a good expression for the mother to have used towards the main character.

Yes, I love this quote as well! I interpret this quote as no matter how bad you are feeling now, just know that it will get better. To me, the dark tunnel is the bad thing you are going through now, and the light is the good thing that is yet to come. I love how you compared the darkness to the trouble and the tunnel to her life, great connections! Are there any other ways you could interpret this quote, or any other connections you could make?
The specific quotes stood out to me in this book is What matters most.I don't have the time or the space to write more, so I'll write what needs to remember. they stood out to me because I was surprised why 17 years old write something like this or what he mean in here when he write it, they make think this boy have something try so to say or what he gonna write about I think before I finish the book he really smart.
I think it's good to question why an author would want to say what they have. What is important about it? What makes what they have to say valuable enough to put to paper? And I think that asking these questions can help us have a better perspective on their writing. But if we can see a little bit of the author's passions and, through that, learn about the authors themselves, not only do we learn more from the book, but the topics become more personal to us as well.

pg.96 ´I see death coming up the hill, and I am not ready to meet him´. This last part stand up to me because Im not sure who HIM?? But I know it something to do with death. But when you think about it. This book is all about death coming up the hill. Paw
Sometimes authors use pronouns like him to make concepts like death more relatable. So when the author writes "I am not ready to meet HIM," him is referring to death itself. Ashe saw death coming up the hill and decided in that moment that he was not ready to meet him, meaning he was not ready to die.
The quote that I feel was the best is when Reuben, the man who was a soldier in the war told Ash "The white collar dudes sitting in DC aren't the ones bleeding" this means alot because in another story, the lower class men were being drafted. The higher class men could enropp for a college and not have to go to the war. If this war didn't happen, would we still be getting drafted against our will? Jaylen
Yea that is a very powerful quote that still holds true to this day. It's the rich politicians in Washington, DC, that make all the decisions that end up sending other men to war. It is unfortunate but it is the way the world works. At least people aren't drafted nowadays! It is crazy to think that people were drafted and sent to war against their will! I am honestly not sure what happened between then and now that changed the fact that men and women got drafted. Thank goodness it did change though! This book brings that fact to life that the draft and this Vietnam war were terrible things for the American people.
"Throughout history, people have accepted risks for some greater good, and I could think of nothing greater than the well-being of mom and Rosa. I loved them more than I hated war- and even more than I feared death"(190-1). This quote is from the end of the novel, and stands out because it tells so much of what kind of person Ashe is. It made me think that there still are great people in this crazy world. I connect it with my thoughts of wanting to be the best that I can be and to think of my loved ones. What do you think?
